A Leader Who Knows the Struggle Firsthand

Born on the east side of Buffalo and raised throughout the city of good neighbors, Anthony has experienced many of the challenges we face as a city firsthand. Anthony Tyson-Thompson understands what it’s like when opportunity feels just out of reach. Raised in an underserved community, he grew up witnessing the challenges that many families face navigating crumbling infrastructure, economic instability, and systems that seemed more like barriers than pathways to success. His journey wasn’t easy, but it shaped his purpose. His family, like so many others, worked hard to build a better future, and Anthony learned early that resilience, education, and community were the keys to transformation.

Family and Community First

Anthony’s commitment to public service is deeply personal. His mother, a hardworking woman of faith and perseverance, instilled in him the value of service and sacrifice. She reminded him that no matter where you come from, you can be a force for change. From an early age, Anthony was drawn to leadership, whether it was volunteering weekly at the local soup kitchen, advocating for better resources in his school, organizing in his community, or finding ways to bring people together for a common cause. That passion became his life’s work.

Turning Challenges into Action

Anthony has dedicated his career to creating real change, not just talking about it. As a community organizer, nonprofit leader, philanthropic consultant, and communications director in the New York State Assembly, he has worked on the front lines of some of the toughest challenges fighting for better schools, safer neighborhoods, and stronger economic opportunities. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Anthony helped lead one of the largest vaccination efforts in his region, ensuring that over 200,000 residents had access to life-saving healthcare. He knows that leadership isn’t about words it’s about stepping up when people need you the most.

Anthony believes that everyone, no matter their zip code, deserves a fair shot at success. That means creating good-paying jobs, supporting small businesses, and making sure economic growth benefits everyone, not just a select few. It means strengthening schools so every child has access to an education that prepares them for the future—whether that’s college, trade school, or entrepreneurship. It means making sure our neighborhoods are safe, affordable, and thriving. And it means reforming government so that City Hall works for the people not against them. Too often, bureaucracy stands in the way of progress. Anthony will cut red tape, increase transparency, and ensure that all voices are heard in the decisions that shape their lives.
